Creative Crawley wishes you an inspiring Earth Day 🌍

Caring for both people and the planet is at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to people and planet  guides us to create work that is inclusive, and sustainable and we’re committed to creating cultural experiences that nourish communities and tread lightly on the Earth.

It’s about making creativity meaningful, sustainable and shared. From low-impact production methods to community-led programming, we’re committed to creativity that not only connects people, but also protects and respects our environment.

This commitment is brought vividly to life in Invasive Species, a pop-up installation by Rubbish Artist Tracey Graham, commissioned by Creative Crawley. Free to view at our County Mall space (Unit 79/80), the piece invites reflection on one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time: plastic waste.

Blending humour with urgency, Invasive Species takes a wry but powerful look at single-use plastics—materials designed for moments, yet lasting for decades as they break down into microplastics that impact ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Rather than placing blame, Rubbish Artist uses playfulness as a way to spark curiosity, conversation, and change.

The installation transforms discarded materials into imaginative sculptural forms—an ecosystem of invented “critters,” each with its own playful taxonomy and lifespan based on how long its source material takes to decompose. Made from plastics commonly found in waterways—some beach-combed, others bin-combed—these creations highlight both the scale of the problem and the creative potential of reuse.

Invasive Species is both a cautionary tale and a hopeful call to action: to rethink our relationship with waste, to see value where we once saw none, and to move beyond a single-use mindset.

This Earth Day, we invite you to pause, reflect, and be inspired. Visit our County Mall window and experience the installation for yourself.
