Drive (Training)

Drive offers formal and informal training, mentoring, placements, skills development and skills sharing opportunities.

Who is it for?

Drive is for Playmakers, local residents, students, local voluntary groups/organisations and staff working with Creative Crawley.

How does it work?

Through listening to local residents and learning from events/projects we deliver and/or go to, we respond to knowledge or skills gaps and direct requests to organise training that will be widely beneficial for the local community.

Formal Training is organised and hosted by Creative Crawley.

Examples of training and skills sharing opportunities we have hosted:

Budgeting: Making The Numbers Happen with Sophie Eustace
Inclusive Facilitation with Access All Areas
Trauma Informed Training with NAPAC
Backlash Training with FATT Projects
Unconscious Bias Training with Tonic Theatre
First Aid in the Workplace Training with RB Health and Safety
Making Stuff Happen: For Creative & Curious Minds with Producer Gathering

Mentoring is offered on a case-by-case basis or as part of a structured project. We identify mentoring opportunities, responding to needs and requests from local residents who are either working with us or are Playmakers. For example, we have worked with a local young person who was on the Skills Exchange Programme and is an aspiring Fashion Designer. We introduced them to a local professional Fashion Designer and supported the coordination of practical mentoring.

Skills Development is built into Creative Crawley’s programme of activity and responds to the needs of local residents and our understanding of the gaps in provision for skills development. One of the ways we support people to develop is by offering work opportunities so that they can ‘learn by doing’. For example, local residents have worked with us as Workshop Assistants, supporting a Lead Artist on a creative activity such as Printmaking. This helps to develop people’s skills as assistants.

Paid Placements are offered on a case-by-case basis. This depends on partnerships we are developing, the capacity of the Creative Crawley team to support a placement and how a placement may be able to support the needs of Creative Crawley at that particular time. For example, we have been developing our partnership with the University of Sussex and have hosted a third year student who has worked with us to support the programme through administration, marketing and event support and we have worked with Artswork to host a Breakthrough placement for three years in a row.
