In April, May and June, as part of The Creative Village project, we commissioned three new installations for the window gallery at the creative makerspace at 1, Town Barn Road, West Green, Crawley.
The first commission was by members of the Skills Exchange Programme and you can find out more HERE.
The second was by Crawley based visual artist, Lonny Chauhan. Lonny graduated from Leeds Arts School in 2024 and lives in Three Bridges, Crawley.
Figures of Fragility (2024)
Lonny Chauhan
‘Figures of Fragility’ is a combination of the sculptural works ‘Embodiment of Fatigue’ and ‘Sculptural Diary’ by artist Lonny Chauhan. These sculptures stem from Chauhan’s experience of living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME), a condition which causes excessive tiredness and pain, among other symptoms. Originally the work was created to explore and express his own physical fragility but this soon evolved to relate to human fragility as a whole – both physical and emotional, and beyond that of just his own. In his vulnerability with this work, Chauhan hopes that ‘Figures of Fragility’ will help to bring visibility to disability and connect with those who have ever been confronted with their own fragility.
The sculptural diary intends to document and demonstrate the experience of living with chronic fatigue. The rules for this diary were as follows:
Embodiment of Fatigue (2024)
Wire, modroc, plaster, dye, latex, modelling clay, oil paint
175x60x20cm
Sculptural Diary (2024)
