Skills Exchange: Showcase April 2025

5th Apr 25 | 1 Town Barn Road, West Green

10 people aged 16 – 29 years worked with Creative Crawley and professional creatives from September 2024 to June 2025. Between 31st March and 5th April 2025 they collaborated in small groups and created installations for the new creative makerspace in West Green.

Their work was open to the public on Saturday 5th April 2025 as part of a local showcase with nationally based artist Brigitte Aphrodite who performed her show Living Legends (and Dead Ones too) as part of the same event.

The showcase was free to attend and featured:

Concrete Jungle

by Charlie Baxter and and Isaias Goncalves

Our artwork installation consists of a mixed media piece that represents the growth of creativity within Crawley brought through the skills exchange program.

We decided to create a visual representation of Crawley as a City being overtaken by nature in its lower levels and gradually getting built up into a futuristic megacity.

Sandy Times

by Ella Raimundo and Grace Lambert

Ella Raimundo

Hey there, I’m Ella and I’m currently studying Music, Psychology and Health and social care! I am 17 years old and I love absorbing all the information and creativity I can get. I am passionate about creativity and bringing ideas to life to inspire others.

Grace Lambert

I’m an aspiring director and writer exploring different art forms. I’m mainly trained in theatre but have learnt various other skills through this program.  I look forward to following my career path and seeing where the tide leads me.

Grains of sand slip through my hands,
Like memories I can’t command.
The wind sweeps footprints from the shore,
As if we’d never walked before.
The waves return, erase the past,
Soft echoes fading, gone so fast.
Time drifts by on restless seas,
Stealing moments with silent ease.
Yet somewhere deep beneath the tide,
A whisper lingers, cast aside.
A story told in grains of gold,
Of love once warm and hands once bold.
For even as the storms may rage,
And time may turn another page,
Some flecks of yellow still remain,
A trace of joy, a touch of pain.
The days we lost, the ones we won,
The songs we sang, the things undone.
Each fragile grain, a world inside,
A fleeting dream the waves can’t hide.
And so I walk these sands of time,
To plant my heart so it won’t die.
Though winds may howl and waters rise,
A piece of me will still survive.
For time steals and memories fade,
love outlives the price it’s paid.
And somewhere in the shifting land
There’s future hope beneath the sand

Spiral of Creation

by Zikora Onwuka, Liuba Manzarkhanova and James Fensom

The theme of growth from our brief inspired the nature web that connects the various art forms practiced in the creative makerspace at 1, Town Barn Road, West Green

The flow of the flower connects artistic works in progress and the inspiration we all grow from.

Zikora Onwuka

An aspiring business owner, currently studying Level 2 Upholstery and building her sewing skills, helped bring our front window display to life. Her creativity and attention to detail added beautiful textures and patterns, making the design truly stand out. Take a closer look and see how her work adds a special touch to our display.

Liuba Manzarkhanova

An aspiring jewellery designer contributed to the set design of our display, using her skills to create a visually striking scene. Her work not only showcases her talent but also guides the audience’s eye, inviting them to explore the space inside the building.

James Fensom

A baker with a deep love for flowers and nature brought his passion to the display, using natural elements as inspiration. His touch adds warmth and beauty, blending his artistic eye with the theme to create a truly inviting scene.
