Do you have a creative job and live in Crawley, West Sussex or Surrey? Do you want to share some of your creative ideas in front of a kind and generous audience?
Each month, we curate an evening of local talent, from music to theatre, films to art installations. This is an opportunity to share your ideas and/or experience the local creative scene.
Come along and meet other creatives, find out what’s going on creatively locally and have the opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas with likeminded people.
Each month, in different Crawley locations, the event is hosted by local spoken word artist and rapper Woodzy and the rest of the line up will be announced in the run up to the night.
For November, we’re excited to welcome the following creatives:
Éloïse O’Dwyer-Armary (she/they)
Éloïse is a bilingual poet born in France and based in Sussex, UK. They are a PhD researcher in ecopoetry at the University of Brighton and the recipient of a Develop Your Creative Practice grant from Arts Council England. They are the author of the chapbook Body Compost & other ghost poems and have poems published in various zines and magazines. They are the director of the documentary film Collections of Queer Poets, and co-producer of the podcast Poetry To Your Ears.
Simon Edwards
Simon is a photographer, filmmaker and artist, living and working in Crawley, West Sussex. Photography has been part of Simon’s life since he was gifted his first camera for his 8th birthday.
The magic of photography was sparked in childhood when he would spend hours looking through his family slides using a small back-lit viewer. The photographic medium has held his imagination ever since.
Simon has studied art, photography and film graduating with BA in Fine Art from the then University of Central England in Birmingham in the mid 90s.
After years working in television and commercial video, Simon is again making his own work, centred around the photographic medium. He works mainly with a ‘snapshot’ aesthetic capturing the day to day world around him, often his subject matter centred on the mundane and the everyday. These things often become extraordinary after being frozen in time.
“My best work occurs when I’m not thinking about it’s purpose, whether it will be any good or not, or if it’s what anyone else wants. To wander, to shoot what grabs my attention, and to play; for me that is where the sweet spot is.”
This event is free but ticketed. Register to attend here
Doors will open at 6.30pm when you can mix with other local creatives
