Creative Playground is driven by lots of different people. There are Playmakers (volunteers who help decide what the programme is), Community Organisers (local people paid to help shape and deliver events), our Welcome Team (the friendly faces you’ll meet at our events), the Core Consortium (volunteers who form a governing body for the project), and the Creative Playground staff team, including freelance specialists, all employed by Creative Crawley (who manage the project). And then of course there’s you, the people who are interested in what we’re up to but not yet involved.
Playmakers are volunteers who take part in the programme, make decisions about it and encourage others to get involved too. And these aren’t token decisions, Playmakers genuinely shape what happens in Crawley. A Playmaker group worked on the murals you can now see around the town, choosing the locations, selecting the artists and helping with delivery. Another group made the Crawley Fashion Show happen, choosing the designers, selecting artists for community workshops, and even stepping into the spotlight themselves as dressers and models on the night.
Everyone is welcome to become a Playmaker; you just have to live or work in Crawley and be open to trying new things. Maybe you have a passion for reading, online gaming, listening to music, watching films, or am-dram. Perhaps you’re a business owner, hairdresser, delivery driver, teacher, or taxi driver. Whether you work in a pub, at Gatwick Airport, a care home or anything in between, this could be for you.
We host Feasts and Open Days where you can come and meet us and find out more. Check out the What’s On pages for what’s coming next.

The Core Consortium are the governing body for the Creative Playground project. They are like a board, meeting quarterly to give strategic direction and financial oversight. They are representatives from a range of local organisations and give their time for free. Creative Crawley is the lead organisation and accountable body for the project. Dave Watmore is the Independent Chair. Other consortium members are Crawley Community Action, Freeshop Crawley, Crawley Community Youth Service, Manor Royal BID, Tamil Learning Centre and County Mall Shopping Centre.
Each year, we work in partnership with organisations like Artswork or University of Sussex to offer paid placements for young people aged 18 – 25years. Check out our recruitment page to see if we are currently advertising.
