Creative Crawley presents Shree by Seeta Patel Dance as part of the Crawley Fusion Mela, a weekend of live entertainment and community celebration.
Crawley Fusion Mela – Full Saturday Line-Up
Shree Performance Times: 12.30pm and 3pm
Shree by Seeta Patel Dance is a compelling solo work that explores the embodiment of Earth as Mother – tracing her birth, her boundless capacity to nurture life, and the devastating impact of human destruction. Rooted in the Indian classical form Bharatanatyam dance, the work moves between creation and collapse, ultimately calling for collective responsibility, renewal, and care.
Originally performed by Seeta Patel at Sadler’s Wells with live Carnatic musicians (the classical music tradition of South India), Shree was conceived as a richly layered dialogue between dance and music. This performance is led by Indu Panday, a long-standing dancer with Seeta Patel Dance, whose nuanced and deeply embodied practice brings depth to the choreography. Through intricate gesture, rhythm, and expression, Panday gives voice to the Earth’s journey- inviting audiences to reflect on their relationship to the natural world.
At once intimate and urgent, Shree speaks to our current moment, offering a poetic yet powerful meditation on environmental fragility and the enduring possibility of restoration.
Crawley Fusion Mela continues on Sunday 26 July in Memorial Gardens with a free programme of cultural performances, activities and workshops, programmed by Cohesion Plus.
